🧠 Yuppie How-To: Find Your Style
It’s high time we design our own worlds, so where do you start?
Some designers and ~chic~ influencers will tell you the do’s and don’ts, the rules and tips of the trade, but many times this advice comes from a place of arrogance and egocentricity - obsessive about their view of the world…
I hear you, studying design takes time, attention, and MAJOR interest which many of us don’t have. So, as a wayfinder if you will, I recommend starting with 1 of 3 styles : minimal, maximal, or traditional.
What feels most like you?
I guarantee finding furniture will be way more fun once you orient yourself (at least for the the big ticket items)… accents and fun little bits and bobs - don’t stress :)
🌱 Minimal
Era: 1900s–1950s
Movements: Bauhaus, Art Deco, International Style
Vibes: clean lines, function > flair, always crisp
Icons: Jean-Michel Frank, Eileen Gray, Richard Neutra, Arne Jacobsen
💫 Maximal
Era: 1960s and beyond
Movements: Pop Art, Memphis, New Minimalism
Vibes: bold, playful, a little weird
Icons: Faye Toogood (forever fave), Verner Panton, Sabine Marcelis, Nifemi Marcus-Bello
🕰 Traditional
Era: Pre-1900s
Movements: Arts & Crafts, Neoclassical, Art Nouveau
Vibes: ornate, historic, rich textures and romantic tones
Icons: William Morris, Josef Hoffmann, Gustav Stickley
